I was flipping through the San Jose Mercury News on October 23rd and came across an article written by Lisa M Freiger about our local tarantulas. If you have never ran into one of these hairy guys, it’s quite a site. They are non-aggressive and virtually harmless. One has never bitten me, but I’m told it feels like a bee sting. Henry Coe State Park in Morgan Hill is where I have seen most of the tarantulas. I also came across one while taking my son and his dog on a hike in Almaden Quicksilver Park in South San Jose. Our dog got spook a bit, but it was a pretty cool site for my son. Late summer to early fall seems to be the best time to view these fascinating creatures
